MANKATO — A Mankato emergency pantry and a regional food surplus rescue program are the beneficiaries of recent grants awarded by Mankato Area Foundation.
The two grants addressing regional food insecurity total $300,000 and are a Taylor Family Farms Foundation donation managed by the Mankato Area Foundation.
ECHO Food Shelf is the recipient of $200,000 for its building expansion.
Region Nine Development Commission will use its $100,000 grant to coordinate and implement a regional effort to rescue surplus food for food shelves.
“We are so grateful to Glen A. Taylor and the Taylor Family Farms Foundation for their support of this important initiative,” Nancy Zallek, president and CEO of MAF, stated in a press release.
“These funds will increase regional food recovery, storage and distribution efforts, ultimately getting food to where it’s most needed and making a difference for families around the region.”
